Home-made Pavement T-shirt
I was first introduced to Pavement by a friend when I was 16. I listened to a couple of songs, didn’t think much of it and quickly moved onto the next thing. Months later, with iTunes on shuffle, ‘Embassy Row’ began to play and I was instantly hooked. I listened to Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Wowee Zowee almost exclusively for the rest of the year as nothing else could come close to the lyrical brilliance and technical capability that they demonstrated over those two albums. My listening soon expanded to the rest of their catalogue (I now own all of their records as well as Quarantine the Past, the Slow Century DVD and a 1995 Father to a Sister of a Thought 7″) and even still, my Pavement records are the most listened to of my collection.
J’ai fait connaissance de Pavement grâce à un ami quand j’avais 16 ans. J’ai écouté 2/3 chansons, n’en ai pas pensé grand-chose et je suis passé à autre chose. Plusieurs mois plus tard, au hasard de I-tunes, j’ ai entendu Embassy Row et ça m’a accroché tout de suite. Ensuite j’ai écouté Crooked rain Crooked rain , et Wovee Zowee et presque rien d’autre tout le restant de l’année, ne trouvant rien qui puisse rivaliser, au niveau de la qualité des paroles et de la maitrise technique, avec ces 2 albums. J’ai fini par écouter le reste de leur discographie (je possède maintenant l’intégralité de leurs albums y compris Quarantine the Past, le dvd Slow Century et un Father … de 1995 en vinyl 7″ et je dirais même que ce sont de mes disques, ceux que j’écoute le plus.
In 2010, they were announced as the headline act for the fourth Golden Plains Music Festival. The idea of actually seeing my favourite band live had never occurred to me as they had long been disbanded. Therefore, when this news was announced, I made my own Pavement T-shirt out of sheer excitement so that everyone would know who I was there to see. I staked out a position in the front row hours beforehand, drinking beers and seeing some great bands, but always focused solely on Pavement who would be playing that night.
En 2010 on les a annoncés comme tête d’affiche du 4e Golden Plains Music Festival. Le groupe s’étant séparé depuis longtemps, jamais je n’aurais cru avoir l’occasion de les voir sur scène. Donc dès que j’ ai su celà, tout excité, je me suis fait mon propre tshirt de Pavement pour que tout le monde sache pour qui je venais. Je me suis installé dans les premiers rangs plusieurs heures avant, j’ai bu des bières, j’ai écouté des supergroupes (ironic), mais en ne pensant qu’à voir Pavement.
Their set time rolled around, the audience swelled and Pavement took to the stage. Instantly cool and with the crowd in the palms of their hands, they churned through all of their biggest hits as well as some lesser known songs with ease: ‘Range Life’, ‘Gold Soundz’, ‘Blue Hawaiian’, ‘Grounded’. None of them had lost their touch and I couldn’t have asked for more, it was one of the best sets I’ve ever experienced.
L’heure du concert est arrivée, le public a grossi et Pavement est arrivé sur scène. Très à l’aise et face à un public conquis, ils ont passé en revue leurs plus gros hits, ainsi que des chansons moins connues : ‘Range Life’, ‘Gold Soundz’, ‘Blue Hawaiian’, ‘Grounded’. Ils n’avaient pas perdu la main, je ne pouvais rien demander de plus !! Un des meilleurs concerts que j’ai vus.
P.S. Just to top it off, midway through their set Bob Nastanovich shouted out that he liked my Tirt, that was awesome too.
Et en prime, vers le milieu du concert Bob Nastanovich a dit qu’il trouvait mon t-shirt sympa, ça aussi c’était génial !
